We have incorporated two professional local young men’s talents into our weekly curriculum to provide a Mini Football programme and a Drama Session. This provides positive male role models to the children. We have also incorporated weekly Forest school sessions.
We introduced Forest School to our curriculum in September 2015. Since then, all of the children have benefitted from local trips to the forest and green areas. King square nursery is in the borough of Islington and is located under a high rise block of flats. Many of our parents and children live in flats and do not benefit from having garden areas. This is one of our main reasons behind forest school as many of our children and parents are not accessing natural environments. At Forest School children are physically active a lot of the time and their stamina improves as they go through their forest school sessions. Their experience can also help to lead to the development of healthier lifestyles as children ask parents to take them on trips to woodlands and green spaces outside of school times. As the children gain confidence and improve their self-esteem this can impact on their emotional and mental well-being.
